Route 3 Accident Today WEYMOUTH, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle collision on Route 3 southbound that occurred early today and resulted in one fatality, authorities confirmed.
State Police said troopers from the Norwell Barracks responded around 5:10 a.m. to reports of a three-vehicle crash near Exit 38B on Route 3. The collision involved a 2014 Mazda CX-5, a 2016 Smart Fortwo and a 2011 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The operator of the Mazda, a 40-year-old man, was transported to South Shore Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. Officials have not released his identity pending family notification.
State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction personnel remain on scene, and the cause of the crash is under investigation. At this time, authorities have not indicated whether charges are expected or if impairment was a factor.
Motorists are advised to expect delays on Route 3 southbound as responders work at the scene. Additional updates are expected as investigations continue.
